Memorial Day 2012
(Each year I try to speak from my heart about what Memorial Day means to me. Below, I combined two original posts dated Memorial Day 2009 and 2010 to say what lies in my heart year-round.)
For me, Memorial Day isn't just one day on the calendar; Memorial Day is every single day that I live as a free citizen of the United States of America.
Writing a political blog 5 days a week is part of the reason my mind is often on those who have given their lives for ours. Being at war, is also part of it; It's hard to escape the thought of our men and women serving and dying on foreign and domestic soil as we man the home front enjoying the freedoms they retain. Lastly, and at the forefront of every hour of every day, is our mostly inept elected officials (leaders, they are not). Barry and Crew continue to whittle away the freedoms bought with the blood of our brethren; instead of honoring their contribution, Washington mocks the meaning of their deaths. That they enjoy the freedom to do so, is an irony lost on few.
Even with the challenge of an inept Commander-in-Chief in the arena of war, of the very real possibility that they will endanger their lives, many still volunteer to serve today. They are modern day heroes. They are the face of freedom.
These fine men and women are the main reason I am grateful for those who have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice. It's their spirit of service that supports me when I grow weary with Washington, it's their spirit of perseverance that lifts me when it would be easier to quit, it's their spirit of faith that moves me forward ( SEMPER AVANTI!) when my own fades.
May we remember that our freedom does not come as a result of laying down arms in the face of dread, but by the might and bloodshed of those who value and understand freedom.
I salute you, Patriots past and present. Thank you isn't enough, but I offer it to you with my undying love and deepest gratitude every single day I am free. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
May God Bless you and keep you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it. ~Thomas Paine
It is a great and mighty fatigue. Let us never forget those who have gone before us in the fight. May they have their eternal rest.
And So It Begins
It appears as if military chaplains are under attack if they refuse to preform same-sex marriages. Nancy Pelosi stated last week that she, along with the Barry and Crew, opposed a provision, Section 536 of the National Defense Authorization Act, that reads:
No member of the armed forces may “direct, order, or require a chaplain to perform any duty, rite, ritual, ceremony, service, or function that is contrary to the conscience, moral principles, or religious beliefs of the chaplain, or contrary to the moral principles and religious beliefs of the endorsing faith group of the chaplain.”
Pelosi denies that any chaplain has been forced to preform any ceremony against their beliefs. Yet, that's not the word on the military-chaplian street. The Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty is not so convinced that this administration has their religious freedom in mind. Go HERE to read the entire article.
The takeaway is this:
“If it is a threat, then this is essential to preserving freedom of religion in our armed forces,” Knight said. “Given the administration’s heavy hand against Catholic hospitals over the contraceptive, abortifacient, sterilization issue, why should anyone trust them not to go after the chaplains and do things against their conscience?”
Trust Barry and Crew to do the right thing? Never.
Convincing Romney/Ann Bashing (not)
Oh My Gosh! Romney has no empathy for people?! And Ann doesn't know she's rich?!
(sorry, i couldn't get the video to adjust in size...user error, i'm sure)
It really resonates because...? Because, Betsey says so.
We must let Betsey tell us how it is; we must hear her truth. Cause she's like a past Obama official, for goodness sakes, and like knows stuff.
Gosh! Get with the Romney/Ann-bashing program people.
As he yammers on, do you think he realizes that he makes the case for his behind to be booted from the WH?
Folks are frustrated.
They will express themselves in this next election.
They know why they haven't gotten one of the jobs that have been created.
They know why their family hasn't been touched by the recovery.
They understand there is still a lot of work to be done.
So Barry, we're gonna start that hard work with you. We're gonna march you forward, point you towards the door, and ask you kindly to stop lying to us about a supposed recovery, stop manipulating job numbers, and get the hell out before every freedom we have is ripped from out lives.
Forward indeed, bucko.
What I Love About America
Her people, that's what I love about America.
Sometimes people forget the power they have in the vote. They forget that they can effect change. It's a thing of beauty to witness.
This is old news, but when Republican (RINO) Senator Richard Lugar was defeated by a Tea Party member, I have never been so proud of her people.
Libbies love to try and diminish the Tea Party folks with their hate (Hatas gonna hate!). The MSM has been reading the Tea Party obituary for the last year. Democrats have loudly accused the movement of being astro-turfed, while defending their actual astro-turfed Occupy group, yet, I can't recall one Occupy member being elected or ousting a long-term Senator.
Who wins here? The left? The MSM? The Democratic Party?
Nah. No matter how hard they try to turn off the spigot of freedom, the Tea Party still stands and with ferocity. It's as if the hand of God will not be moved.
Listen, when Harry Reid takes to Twitter to cry about losing Lugar, you know it was a great victory:
Senator Harry Reid @SenatorReid
The German Got It Right
My mother, The German, got it right. She called BS on Barack when he showed up in Berlin in 2008.
This is a woman who lived through WWII, a woman whose family hid Jews, a woman of very little patience for political shenanigans after having witnessed and survived Hitler. The German got it right.
She called me (note: she so rarely calls me, I thought someone had died) on the day Obama had his rally in Berlin and the convo went like this:
TG: Have you seen what is happening in Berlin?!
Me: Yes. It's awful, isn't it?
TG: Well, what do you plan on doing about it? You have to do something.
Me: I plan on hollering and begging people to listen to reason, but this looks bad. He might be our next...
TG (said in thicker than normal accent cause she's horrified): Oh my Got, Patti. This can never happen. He reminds me of Hitler. This man is dangerous.
I kid you not. And I repeated that conversation to anyone who would listen. I was accused of being inflammatory. Um, hello. I am repeating what a German, who lived through the horrors of Hitler, is articulating. Not inflammatory, jackhole, just facts.
After Barry was elected, many of us knew what we were in for. The German was scared of the past becoming the present. When many of us called Barry out for his overreaching, freedom choking, Hitler-esque style of "governing" we were told to literally shut our mouths.
"Give him a chance. Can't you do that?!"
We would counter that we saw who he was and there were no chances to be given. Then we were called RACISTS! and that was one of the nicer insults hurled our way.
Now? Now, Barry's numbers are tanking. Even his base is pissed. Worse? Europe is disappointed.
Welcome to the club, Europe. WTF took you so long?
The one line that made me laugh in the article was this one: "The Japanese like Obama. Maybe they don't know all that much about him, but I guess he continues to be seen as a youthful, energetic, charismatic leader."
They like him! They don't know much about him, but they really like him! Much like his blind base.
The German, every American who saw this coming and I await the apology of those who were either too ignorant or too stupid to see this coming.
Friday Truth
My friends over at Commentarama, offered an interesting and topical quote to ponder. It's so important, I wanted you to be able to think about it too.
The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.
Norman Thomas, Perpetual Socialist Candidate for Governor of California and President of the United States
It's Ugly Out There
I think we all know people who are suffering in this economy. Where is the leadership? Where are the promised jobs? Where are the shovels, ready to dig?
Even Biden understands this lousy economy with this rare truth:
If there's any justice, Biden's job is the one that's next to go as he sits around that table.
Losing is Never Easy
This is a week delayed, but it spoke to me.
I've always said Gingrich would make a phenomenal cabinet member, but not a president. I was happy to see him come to his senses and get the hell off the stage.
Newt, now let's kick some ass together, shall we?
Gut Says: Government Tracking Gun Owners
I was having a conversation with a reliable source last week and she advised me that one of her neighbors went to the doc and was handed a questionnaire that asked two disturbing questions:
1) Do you own a gun?
2) Do you have fire detectors in your home?
What?
Anyone that is alert and paying attention knows this isn't benign. Was it possible that this particular doc was innocently over-reaching? My gut said no. I did some research and found that it's becoming more common.
Sun Sentinel Article
While Snopes seems to refute/debunk that docs are required to ask the question if you are a Medicare patient, that I have it on a very reliable source that docs here in Texas are asking, you have to wonder how slippery the slope is (sooooo slippery) to governmental notification, doctor/patient confidentiality be damned.
Documenting gun ownership has no place in my healthcare. Or yours. Period.
Thankfully, this bill, dubbed "docs vs glocks" was passed into law - HB 155 - which makes it a felony for docs to ask.
Is it too much to ask that the rest of the states follow?
You're sick of it. I'm sick of it. We're all sick of it.
Well, most of us our sick of it; not Barry. He lurvs to throw our money into the pit of bad investments.
Perhaps he's confusing "green" energy with the color of all the bills he's shoveling their way. Or maybe he's just giving us a giant F-U as he opens the sewer pipes and flushes our wealth down the pooper.
I'm betting it's the latter.
