Asswipe of the Day: Nancy Pelosi
Pelosi using the phrase "skin in the game" in reference to non-taxpayers paying taxes is laughable.
Sure, she wishes it was more, that the folks with "skin in the game" had more skin to give, so she could then give that skin to those with less skin, because let's face it, everyone has a right to skin.
And by skin, I mean your hard-earned money.

She's kind of missing the point. Federal programs are paid for out of...wait for it...federal taxes! So to eliminate the deficit (we won't even talk about digging into the debt yet) you have to lower expenditures, increase revenues, or both. To lower expenditures you have to scale back federal programs. To increase revenues, you need to broaden your tax base. And if you really want to make/keep us competitive on the global stage and maybe, possibly, put some of our folks back into jobs, you need to deregulate the private sector and clamp down on the unions so that businesses can hire people instead of taking their jobs overseas where they can afford the labor costs. It's not complicated, it just requires a little bit of intestinal fortitude. Every time I want to get mad at the politicians, I have to remember that it took a majority of Americans to put them into office. And then I get mad at them instead...
jake: yes, i'm also ticked at those who voted these morons in, but i still hold plenty of my anger for the idiots in office as they muck up the joint. and how they do it with straight faces is a testament to how dead they are inside.

Patti, Pelosi if not just the Asswipe of the day, she's the Queen of the Asswipe Hall of Fame.
That said, I do absolutely wish that more people had to pay taxes because that gives them a reason to oppose the continuing growth of government.
andrew: isn't that the truth (on both counts)? when folks start paying taxes is when they get annoyed with the inefficiencies of the government.

The takeaway for me is when Pelosi said, "I wish they would earn more so they can pay more." Nancy just wants everyone to pay more taxes. She has no interest in letting people keep their money should they earn more. She merely views voters as taxpayers and not as individuals or citizens.
I think Nancy just put the Democrat agenda in a nutshell (almost)> And she said it so clearly, that could make a nice soundbite for someone running against her. But I somehow doubt that "the other side" in California will be so clever.
