I happened to be running errands and listening to his show this week when he announced his new site. It made me think that what used to pass for media is being reclaimed by the right because the left, aka MSM, refuses to report any political story accurately. There's a vacuum of truth. Beck has decided to fill some of that sucking noise coming from lefties and I commend him and his efforts.
Just one thing though. As he was announcing his site, he was telling his audience, assuring them it seemed, that it wouldn't be snarky. He actually said snarky as if it was a bad thang. WHAT?! He went on to say there's enough of those sites out there and he aimed to do something different.
As I drove along and continued to listen, I kept coming back to his snarky remark. Glenn Beck just dissed me!
I have had a few days of contemplation and prayer behind me, yes, I too talk to God, and Glenn, I would like to respond if I may.
Snarky can be good. Not that everyone has it in them or has the gift of snark. Done right, it can be used as a tool of enlightenment. For reals. All the colors of the rainbow kinda thang, you know?
God shared this scripture with me yesterday morning as I was on a 7-mile run (BRAGGER!) and praying about my snarkiness and if it presented a problem to God (yes, when I pray, God speaks):
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. 3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. 4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
One body, many gifts. My gift just happens to be education, teaching, albeit with a dash of snark. TASTY! It's what I do. And that's ok. Not everyone is cut from the same Glenn cloth. Not all readers like just the facts. Not all readers want it cut and dried. Some like a stiff dose of snark to steal themselves as they read the stories of the day. Some find the snark helps the medicine go down. Some delight in a snarky punch to the nuts of the well-deserving.
Not all of us can be sweetness and light. Some of us were born to kick ass.
The point of this post is to not listen to those around you, no matter who they may be, if you think you are doing what you are called to do. And yes, I know it is hard for many to believe I was called to write this site, but I was, still am. I was told by God Almighty that he would use me as he sees fit, not as anyone else sees fit. It is not for me to judge; it is for me to obey.
So Glenn, instead of dissing those of us who utilize ze snark to make a point, focus on your site, do what you have been called to do, and together, as folks who are aiming for the same result, we will prevail.
63 Days and counting!
