This is Not Over

SPECIAL LATE NIGHT EDITION: House Passes Health Care Bill

This is not over. Say it with me: THIS IS NOT OVER.

As an optimist (what?! you couldn't tell by this blog?!) I will seek the upshot of a very bad terrible day. The upshot of this vote is that it was close. But close isn't a win (i'm also a realist), and we went home tonight with a gigantic FAIL.

It infuriates me beyond expression. I know you know what I am feeling because you are feeling it too. In the face of this infuriation of no expression, I will offer you what I can express.

1) Never give up. Never ever never. (my own version of winston)

2) "All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope." Winston Churchill

We will need all of these for the challenges in front of us. Remember, others have been in our shoes. Look to what you can learn from these great men and women and then apply. Learn, apply, repeat.

3)
Like never before in our lifetime, the time for action is now. We each have something to offer in the fight for freedom. Find your something and get to it. To say that the future of this nation rests upon the actions of ordinary citizens is understating the obvious.

4) Do not be discouraged. You are not alone. Do not let their tainted victory blind you to what we can still accomplish. This is still America, Land of the Free. I don't know about you, but I am going to do everything within my power to keep it that way. There is power in our numbers and in our collective voice. Do not be discouraged.

5) We are Americans. We are fighters. When knocked down, we get back up, face our opponent, look them in the eye, and say, "Bring it." We may be underestimated, we may be the underdog in this scrape, we may have the holy hell beaten out of us at this moment, but We. Are. Americans. And there is nothing else in the world like us, especially when unhappy with those who rule instead of govern.

6) Defeat is not an option. Not today, not tomorrow, not our lifetime. It matters little that the night is dark. We have lived long enough to know that day will follow. We have lived long enough to know that America will not stand for her demise. We have lived long enough to know that when it matters, we show up.

7) This is not over. Believe it. Dream it. Breath it. Live it. Act on it.

I leave you with a quote on love because that is how we will proceed, in the love for what we hold dear:

"Therefore, my beloved, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, because you know that in the Lord your labor is not in vain."

1Corinthians 15:58

May God guide our actions. May God be with us as we fight to save what we love.
May God grant us peace.

I can't recall a time in my life when I've seen such a blatant disregard towards the people who put these assholes in power. They stand up their and say, this is what the people wanted. Makes me want to break things. I heard today that the dems passed an amendment to not have any abortions funded in the bill, to get the necessary votes, but then have a plan to renig when it gets to the final version. That wouldnt supprise me at all. These people have to be stopped. It is a sad day in America, but we shall overcome.

I agree entirely with Grumpy. It really makes you wonder about the sanity of these people.

Patti: Great analysis. We do need to remember that like Winston Churchill, we need to maintain our courage in the face of what seems like overwhelming odds. And we must also maintain eternal vigilance.
