What a weekend. The House bill passes, we felt the hard kick to the gut, yet there is hope that it may be DOA in the Senate. Even if that hope has a shred of truth, the time to act is now because the Senate needs every single one of their party's controlled 60 votes.
The fine bloggers over at Commentarama have come through again with a well-written analysis of what the bill faces. Go HERE and take a read. Andrew's article will serve as your booster shot of courage in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds of hauling this bill to the incinerator. Knowledge is power. Power to the Peeps!
For a look at the roll call on the House vote, go HERE.
Some lingering thoughts on events of the weekend:
1) The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops should be ashamed of themselves this morning. They put their stamp of approval on the House bill based on the Stupak Amendment. Short-sighted much? As a Catholic I howled when I read their endorsement. How can they reconcile stealing from the many for the sake of one provision that they knew would most likely be stripped in the Senate? It sickened me and I am a staunch pro-lifer. Their leadership is as flimsy as the paper the bill is printed on.
2) Say what you want about Lieberman, but that tiny little powerhouse of a Senator is proving to have more leadership in his quiet unassuming manner than almost anyone else. He's a Dem screwing with the Dems; hell, that's enough reason to like him for me. He has conviction and is standing firm. If healthcare is crushed, it may very well be by his hand. Plus, as I watched him on Face The Nation early Sunday morning and heard him use the word "Islamic extremist" in connection to the Ft. Hood shooting, I realized that all wasn't lost. I mentioned on another blog, as the words came forcefully out of his mouth, I could sense the Democrats sharpening their knives for him. Lieberman is the Democrat's cross to bear. And I LOVE IT. Finally, someone out of Washington saying what we all suspect.
The cowardly attack in Killeen wasn't PTS. To say Hasan had PTS diminishes the anguish of those actually suffering from the disorder. PTS my ass, the man is an extremist, deal with it Washington.
U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News.
Not extremist enough for you? How about this:
Major Nidal Malik Hasan, the gunman who killed 13 at America's Fort Hood military base, once gave a lecture to other doctors in which he said non-believers should be beheaded and have boiling oil poured down their throats.
Only the MSM would connect PTS to such extremism.
He also told colleagues at America's top military hospital that non-Muslims were infidels condemned to hell who should be set on fire. The outburst came during an hour-long talk Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, gave on the Koran in front of dozens of other doctors at Walter Reed Army Medical Centre in Washington DC, where he worked for six years before arriving at Fort Hood in July.
Damning evidence to most ordinary citizens, but not so much to Washington. But why wasn't he stopped? Why wasn't he discharged from the military?
And there you have it. Political Correctness saves the day.
That I cheered Lieberman on as he said the words "Islamist extremist" when no others dared, that we have to read about such chilling details of Hasan's obvious disdain of America and his frightening foreshadowing from a UK paper is a testament to where we are as a country. We aren't allowed to name the truth, we can't call something exactly what it is, because we are held in the strangle-hold of political correctness.
RACIST!
Thank you, UK Telegraph, for publishing the story with all the gory and horrifying truth intact. Well done.
I STAND CORRECTED: Ft. Hood's 9/11 is an article that attacks what political correctness is doing to us. Well done, Ralph Peters.
We are in trying days, my friends. Our work to retain freedom, freedom of free markets, freedom of speech, freedom to name the truth, is not in vain. Be steadfast.
Onward.

Thanks for the link Patti! I hope everyone does keep the pressure up. That's the only thing that will kill this bill -- if the politicians know that they will pay a huge price for supporting it.
Lieberman has easily become my favorite Democrat. A man of principle? Hmm, no wonder he left their party.
This whole political correctness thing is infuriating me. As the details come out, it's clear that it was insane to allow this man anywhere near our military. I hope the release of these details prevents Team Obama from covering up who he really was. PTS my rear end.
The Army screwed up. Bottom line. This guy should have been discharged from the army immediately after those comments.
GRRRRR. The whole situation makes me FURIOUS. He's not a tragic figure or anything of the sort - he is a TERRORIST.
